If someone had told you five years ago — that Texas girl who traded a skyline for saltwater — that you’d be here today, you would have laughed in their face. Planning your wedding and your son’s first birthday in the same weekend? It would have sounded like the punchline to a joke.

Back then, you thought you had it all figured out. Your world was small, self-centered in a way you didn’t even notice. There was no scope, no understanding of what it meant to have your heart living outside your body — to feel that kind of fierce, tender love.

And then you moved here, to the emerald coast. You found a new rhythm in the waves, in the softness of the sand, in the quiet moments of possibility that came with each sunrise. You didn’t plan on meeting Stephen. You didn’t plan on motherhood. But love has a way of rewriting everything, doesn’t it?

I wish I could tell you to stop trying to script your life, to stop measuring everything by what it should look like. I’d tell you that what’s waiting for you is bigger than any plan you could have made — and it’s so, so worth it. Because now you’re not just building a life for yourself; you’re building it with them, and for them, too.

There are still days when the old you peeks through — the girl who didn’t understand how to share herself. And that’s okay. You’re still learning. You’re still growing. But every time you look at Jace’s face, or into Stephen’s eyes, you know exactly how lucky you are. You know that home isn’t a place; it’s a feeling. It’s the dancing in the kitchen, the shared glances across a crowded beach, the tiny toes in the sand.

And you wouldn’t trade it for anything.

With love, saltwater, and a mama’s heart,

Kristina — Mommy with a K
